Key Club in Ohio Makes
|
for COTA in honor of Bethany, who has cystic fibrosis. What began as a fundraising idea by Kimberly Kelly, a dedicated science teacher and faculty sponsor for the Ironton High School Key Club, grew into a community-wide effort to put the COTA community campaign "over the top". The Ironton Key Club's efforts resulted in more than $6,000 raised in honor of Bethany. Key Club is an international student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to "provide service, build character and develop leadership". These Ironton students certainly did just that. According to Ms. Kelly (who gives all the credit to her students), "It is amazing |
what can be accomplished by a group of young people dedicated to a common goal." Wanting to help Bethany and fulfill Key Club's vision to "develop competent, capable and caring leaders through the vehicle of service," Ms. Kelly helped her students organize a number of fundraising events culminating with a visit by the Harlem Wizards. At the basketball exhibition and game, Bethany was honored center court and was the star of the evening.
